ISSMA SOLO & ENSEMBLE

It’s time to sign up for ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest. Solo and Ensemble is a great way to have fun and gain skill by performing in a small group or by yourself in a recital setting. This is a “required concert”, so if you choose not to participate, you will need to write a 5-page research paper (Topic to be determined) as the alternate assignment.
Before you make a decision, please read the statements below. All forms and payments are due to Mrs. Brennan by Friday October 28th.
Although transportation is only provided for students, relatives and friends are encouraged to come and cheer their students on!
I will help all students select music for both solos and ensembles. If they choose to select their own, then it must be approved by me before November 1st.
Contest Requirements:
All Choir students are required to take at least one event or write a paper.
You may participate in up to five events (piano solo, vocal solo, small ensemble, large ensemble, L.L. Large mixed ensemble). You may not take more than 1 of each event (ex. You cannot take 2 vocal solos)
You must be free all day on Saturday, January 28, 2012 .
You must commit to practicing your music every week by yourself and at least once every other week with your ensemble.
There is a fee of $13.00 or each solo and $8.00 for each ensemble member. This is due to Mrs. Brennan by the end of October, unless a parent makes other arrangements with Mrs. Brennan prior to that date.
If you are taking a solo, you must find an accompanist by Thanksgiving break (sorry, I don’t accompany) or if you are using a song that I have, you may copy the track off of Moodle onto a CD.
You must be able to sing your solo or ensemble in front of the class the week before contest. Your performance must be approved by Mrs. Brennan before you may attend the contest.
BONUSES TO PARTICIPATING:
If your class performs a large ensemble and earns a GOLD rating, your class will get one “free day” during class.
For each GOLD rating you receive for a solo, you will receive 10 extra credit points.
For each GOLD rating you receive for a small ensemble, you will receive 5 extra credit points.
